Costa Rica – Tropical Storm Nate

Service Alert Costa Rica – Tropical Storm Nate Correos de Costa Rica have informed designated operators that as a result of Tropical Storm Nate, the Government of the Republic of Costa Rica has declared a state of emergency. All postal services have been suspended as from 5th October. This will lead to delays in processing and delivery of letters and parcels. Service Alert Brazil – Strike We have been advised that following reports of widespread industrial action in Brazil, there are major delays in the processing of both inbound and outbound mail in the region. Unfortunately, due to a large backlog at the Post Office, it has been advised that no further cargo is able to be accepted due to lack of room. Service Alert Hurricane Irma The US Postal Service is monitoring category 5 Hurricane Irma. The storm is one of the strongest recorded in the Atlantic. Greece – New customs procedures

Service Alert Greece – New customs procedures Hellenic Post – ELTA, has informed us that since the end of June 2017, new customs procedures under a new memorandum of understanding with customs authorities have been implemented. These new procedures affect both international and domestic mail carrier and delivery. Hellenic Post will be acting as a direct representative of customs authorities. The new customs procedures, including the use of new informative systems, will facilitate and improve customs clearance time. However, the implementation of these new procedures will require an adjustment period. It is reasonable to assume that during this period, there may be some delays in the handling of inbound postal dispatches and delivery items of subject to customs clearance.   Service Alert Postal delays Ecuador Correos del Ecuador CDE E.P. asks us to inform all designated operators of UPU member countries that due to the winter season, several roads have collapsed and there are floods in certain areas of Ecuador. The bad weather has resulted in problems in our routes and there will be delays in the delivery of correspondence and parcels. At the moment, the provinces that present major inconvenience caused by the bad weather are: Costa: El Oro, Guayas Sierra: Bolivar, Chimborazo, Sucumbios Correos del Ecuador CDE E.P. thanks all designated operators for their understanding; it will update designated operators via EmlS once the situation has returned to normal.
